Appearance Mediterranean Film Festival

For the Mediterranean Film Festival, which took place in the summer of 1999 under the title Images of Women took place in the Gasteig, Marlene Kern Design, Online Advertising Agency, was holistically commissioned to design the appearance and various advertising media for the Film City in cooperation with the Instituto Cervantes and other cultural institutions in Munich.

The project volume included the design of a poster, a flyer with complete information about the program and the creation of advertisements.

Motif

The title motif comes from a scene in a Greek film. A young, modernly dressed woman stands opposite an old woman who appears very inconspicuous in her black, conventional clothing. A juxtaposition rich in contrasts, with which this director gets to the heart of the question of the role of women within archaic societies in a polarizing manner. For me as a graphic designer, this motif became the perfect key visual.

Design

The intense blue of an area printed 100% in cyan creates the mental connection to the Mediterranean. The motif itself is printed on it in just one colour, a rich black. A stylized aesthetic that also benefits the legibility of the information.
